It's hard to remember every plant we have or would like to have. That's why we keep lists.  Our plant lists content information about our tries at growing, general information on the plant and photographs.

Christmas Cactus

Place in a room where there is bright direct light. Let soil dry out. Water thoroughly; remember to discard excess water. Ideal Temperature is 68 to 72°F. After flowering is over, allow the plant to go nearly dry. When active growth starts again, water regularly, and feed once a week. A dry cool period during July and August is necessary to promote flowering. If possible, maintain 55F. Restart watering when buds emerge.

Claret Cup Cactus
Echinocerus triglochidiatus (King Cup)
A “hedgehog” cactus native to rocky areas of Arizona, Colorado & New Mexico. This makes it much more cold hardy than some. The individual “barrels” are 3” to 4” in height, sparsely spined, with beautiful, deep red flowers that appear April – June. Unlike other cactus flowers, they stay open at night & each bloom lasts 3-5 days. Hardy to USDA zone 3 at least.

Specimen rescued from urban development in Arizona and given to us by Ann & Eric in 2003.  Now planted in a terracotta pot.
