Coffee-mallow Tortoni

1 cup tiny marshmallows
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon instant coffee powder
1/4 cup toasted chopped almonds
2 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup whipping cream

In a small saucepan, heat and stir marshmallows, milk, and coffee powder till marshmallows are melted.  Cool.  Add chopped almonds.  Beat egg whites and vanilla to soft peaks; gradually add sugar, beating to stiff peaks.  Whip the cream just till soft peaks form. Fold egg whites into coffee mixture. Fold in whipped cream. Spoon into paper bake cups in muffin pans.  Top with a maraschino cherry and additional toasted slivered almonds, if desired.  Freeze firm.
