Cranberry Salad

This Cranberry Salad was a tradition at our family Thanksgiving dinners in Colorado. Recipe from mother, Mildred Kramer. The walnuts were not part of mom's original recipe, but I like the texture.

1 box (3-ounce) cherry JELL-OŽ
1 cup boiling water
1 cup sugar
1 cup crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup cranberries
1 orange, peeled
1/2 cup very coarsely chopped walnuts (optional)

Dissolve gelatin in hot water, set aside to cool. Put raw cranberries and orange through food chopper (course blade) add sugar and mix will, when JELL-OŽ begins to thicken fold in pineapple and cranberry-orange mixture, set aside to chill until firm.
