Baked Apple Pancake

2 cups sifted flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups milk
2 medium tart cooking apples
     pealed, cored and thinly sliced
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Combine flour, 3 tablespoons sugar, baking powder, and salt in bowl;  mix.  Add eggs and 1/2 of milk;  mix well.  Add remaining milk and beat until smooth.  Let stand 30 minutes.  Pour an equal amount of batter into 2 well greased and floured 9-in. layer cake pans.  Arrange rings of apple slices over top of each pancake.  Mix remaining sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples.  Bake in 375°F oven until edges are well browned and apples tender, about 35 minutes Cut into wedges.  Serve at once with syrup.
