Applesauce Doughnuts
 
 4½  cups sifted flour
 3  teaspoons baking powder
 1  teaspoon ground cinnamon
 1  teaspoon ground nutmeg
 ½  teaspoon salt
 ½  teaspoon ground cloves
 1  teaspoon baking soda
 2  cups applesauce
 4  eggs
 1  cup sugar
 1  cup brown sugar packed
 3  tablespoons vegetable oil
 1  teaspoon vanilla extract
 ½  cup milk
  Deep fry oil
  sugar

Sift together first 6 ingredients; set aside.  Stir baking soda into applesauce.  Beat eggs well.  Gradually add both sugars and oil, beating well.  Beat in applesauce mixture and vanilla.  Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, mixing well.
 
Drop by tablespoonfuls into hot oil (375°F).  Fry until golden brown.  Drain on paper toweling.  Roll in sugar.
